So who takes the last 2 slots?
I'm sure they are hoping Rontez Miles will be one of them, but IMO its wishful thinking.

If I had to guess I'd say the last two spots will be S Durell Eskridge and maybe the OL we release next week for Aboushi, probably Qvale, and IMO thats who we should have released today to make room for Martin.

You don't think Shaq Evans makes it?

I'm hoping Miles is still there, but let's see what the next 24 hours bring!

I think the reason they have 10 OL is Qvale. I think they like him alot. he plays every position on the OL. I'm thinking they are hoping he is next years starting RT.

We'll have to see how this plays out.

Honest question - if Miles is such a hot commodity, why hasn't anyone claimed him yet? I know I don't understand the process like many here, but I'd think the longer he lasts, the more likely we get him back (if we want him) . .

Tex, if you go back and read my posts on this topic, you will see that I've repeatedly stated I have no problem with claiming Martin. I'm not even suggesting Miles is better because I haven't seen Martin, so while I suspect Miles is better, it wouldn't be an educated opinion. So my problem was not with claiming Martin and I understand that means he has to be placed on the active roster. I also understand that there needs to be a corresponding cut. It is my position that cutting Miles to make room for Martin was unnecessary and IMO a mistake. It was unnecessary because we are carrying 10 OL's, a ridiculous number, and thats where the corresponding cut should have happened. Keeping Miles would have meant carrying 5 Safeties, and that is a perfectly reasonable number of Safeties to keep. It also would have meant carrying 11 DB's in total (6 CB's), and that is reasonable as well, because you have Nickels, you have Dimes and all of your DB's should be contributing on Special Teams as well, unlike backup OL's who are essentially inactive in Sunday's if they are not in the starting five, thats why most teams usually carry no more than 8 OL's, and double digit DB's.

Lastly, I wish I shared your confidence that Miles will get thru waivers. I don't, but I hope you're right.

Ham, my comments were not made as a criticism, just a commentary on my optimism for this front office. I don't know if they plan to bring Miles back on to the practice squad. But if that's the intention, I'll be surprised if he gets picked up by another team. Evidently, that was a risk the front office was willing to take. Bottom line, I like the fact they brought Owusu back, not as concerned about our fourth safety, not with the number of DB's we have on the roster - some of which could pinch in as a safety if need be.

I may be off base, but I am guessing that Qvale is still on the 53 because Ijalana is banged up. If we had released Qvale and lost him and Ijalana's knee is still an issue, we would not have had a back-up tackle. They may be waiting until practice this week to make a call on Ijalana for Sunday which may decide Qvale's fate.

I doubt we wills still have 10 OL by Sunday.

HE could be claimed by multiple teams already. There is a 24 hour period for teams to complete their claims before hey are officially announced.

Miles wasn't released yesterday, he was released today when we were award Ronald Martin on waivers. That said, it takes 24 hours to clear waivers, that gives every team an opportunity to put in a waiver claim, the team with the highest waiver claim position wins, so you won't know about Miles fate until tomorrow.

I'm going to trust Mac and Bowles. They have way more knowledge than anyone on this board. I will let this play out and see if their decisions are correct even if I don't agree with all of them. I find it funny that people are freaking out about PS type player or fringe depth players at best.

I'm not freaking out over the release of Miles, although I think that was a mistake and he'll prove it was a mistake when he gets a chance to compete with another team, but thats not even the part that upsets me about this the most. What really upsets me is the construction of the roster, namely keeping 10 OL's, at the expense of a fifth Safety who can play. I've been following this league for over four decades, long enough to know that 10 OL's is a ridiculously high number. I would be surprised if you can find one other team that kept that many this year, and its not even like we are loaded at the position with blue-chippers, if that was the case then we'd be stuck, but its not.

They still might make more moves before the weekend is over. Don't forget more players were released today aka Miles.

I agree that 10 OL is high, but there might be an injury or someone like Colon they might not be sold on and he gets injured a lot. Bowles and Co. seem to have everything handled so far. I'm going to let it play out.

At least a part of the reason players go unclaimed is because there is an unwritten rule among GMs that they won't touch players another GM has put out on the grapevine that they want to make it to their practice squad.
There was a HUGE ruckus a couple years ago when Hoodie went and raided a few players from waivers that other GMs thought were going to make it to their own p.s.
HYATT™ is astonished that Wes Saxton actually made it to the Jets p.s. - the unwritten rule was obviously respected in his case.

Awesome article about players being cut and how fans overrate what they are actually worth

http://www.ganggreennation.com/2015/9/6/9270299/new-york-jets-nobody-cut-was-claimed-off-waivers

Saw that article, excellent points were made. We see these guys in a vacuum. I thought Powell had a great preseason returning Kickoffs, even made a couple of nice catches. When he was cut I thought there was a pretty good chance another team would either claim him or sign him after he cleared waivers. Instead he is right back on our PS.
