Official Jets Cuts, Waiver Claims and Practice Squad

Saw that article, excellent points were made. We see these guys in a vacuum. I thought Powell had a great preseason returning Kickoffs, even made a couple of nice catches. When he was cut I thought there was a pretty good chance another team would either claim him or sign him after he cleared waivers. Instead he is right back on our PS.

I think another factor not considered in the article is that any players claimed on waivers need to go to your active roster. These are guys who have not been in your camp and have not practiced in your system. Especially WRs who have had no time to build any chemistry with a QB. A guy like Owusu, who has practiced for 6 weeks with the Jets QBs probably has more value to the Jets than another team.

Unless you really think a player is a significant upgrade in talent, a team may not want to use the roster spot on a marginal guy who will need some practice time before he can contribute when you have alternatives that know your system and players.

Well stated.

You got be sh*tting me!

Rontez Miles might have been the best player on the team in these preseason games, and from everything I read he was having a strong training camp too ... and I DO NOT think he slips through waivers for the PS like the others, with the dearth of quality Safeties in this league, I'll be shocked if he isn't claimed, just look at the Giants situation, he might START FOR THEM on opening day if they claim him!

And that's where I see him heading, the Giants, so we're gonna see, up close and personal, how big a mistake this was.

I don't get it, I'm getting more irate as I type this. Ronald Martin gave us FIVE SAFETIES (with Miles), a perfectly reasonable number, why didn't we cut one of those 10 OL's as the corresponding move instead? I'm sorry, I cannot let this slide without comment, I think this was a blunder, we had a million subpar OL's to choose from to make room for Martin.

Ham I love ya man, but I think the new regime should get the benefit of the doubt before we jump off the bridge and scream soj.

Ronald Martin seems to bring more versatility than the much smaller Miles. I also like that he started at LSU and the Jets obviously scouted him and kept an eye out if he were released. Miles just lacks the size needed in coverage.

New #Jets safety Ronald Martin will wear No. 42.

New Jets S Ronald Martin has No. 42. PS CB Keon Lyn has No. 32. More number info. after practice.

Still, no word on a number change for Williams.

That's so funny Ronald Martin was 6'0 200 when he was tested at his pro day last year. He gain 2 inches and twenty pounds since? Some of these weight and heights the team list should be taken with a grain of salt.

Tweet is from his agent, so I might take that great preseason comment with a grain of salt.

we do see these guys in a vacuum & we are so emotionally invested in the jets we can lose some objectivity from time to time..

that said, punt/kick returning is is a real weapon & powell seemed liked the best guy for both jobs..

For whatever it's worth, Rontez Miles still has a locker. Hasn't been cleared out yet. Potential practice squad addition. #NYJ

Can he play center? I thought I read we don't have a back-up center.

At what point would it be announced if he signed somewhere else?

I thought noon today, but I guess not . . .

I believe 4pm. That is the normal close to the NFL business day.
