Saw that article, excellent points were made. We see these guys in a vacuum. I thought Powell had a great preseason returning Kickoffs, even made a couple of nice catches. When he was cut I thought there was a pretty good chance another team would either claim him or sign him after he cleared waivers. Instead he is right back on our PS.
I think another factor not considered in the article is that any players claimed on waivers need to go to your active roster. These are guys who have not been in your camp and have not practiced in your system. Especially WRs who have had no time to build any chemistry with a QB. A guy like Owusu, who has practiced for 6 weeks with the Jets QBs probably has more value to the Jets than another team.
Unless you really think a player is a significant upgrade in talent, a team may not want to use the roster spot on a marginal guy who will need some practice time before he can contribute when you have alternatives that know your system and players.
