Petty is also a QB who played out of shotgun his entire career. So he will have to make the same changes that Geno had to. Hopefully, the difference this time, he will make his mistakes in practice for a year or two

i'm quite pessimistic on geno, but i don't necessarily agree with you here. i think this shows it is geno's last chance. put up this year or hit the road jack. petty is a long-term project and provides great hope for the future. but i don't think a 4th round project QB signals they are done with geno.

what we do know is the new regime traded for fitz, drafted petty & smith was already here..

for all we know bowles & mac would love nothing more than fitz being the bridge to petty..

I can honestly say that I didn't watch a lot of him being a big ten guy. Saw a few games and the combine and I remember talking to my father and saying, this guy has the best arm of all the prospects and I can see the jets taking a flyer on him. Was coaching a baseball game when I got the update and was very pleased. I'm excited about him. Good size, good arm, can run if need be. I just hope he sits for a little and learns. God knows we have all been waiting long enough for "the guy". Seems like a. Great kid and I hope he can be the guy. You've def been talking him up and exciting me more though my friend lol

I can't see it. You can talk about it all you would like, but I still cannot see it. Whatever good the defense does for us will be OVER nullified by the equally bad play of our QB's. Certainly, if Geno is our starter, we don't have a prayer in hell of even going 8-8. Geno is so GD careless with the ball. I've really never seen anything like it.

I also really do not believe that Fitz makes us much better. Everywhere this guy has gone he has ultimately failed because he cannot protect the football. I compare Geno and Fitz to Neil O'Donnell. Like Parcells said back in 1997, "He could not see the Jets ever being any better than 8-8 or 9-7 with Neil O'Donnell at QB".

I believe that wisdom is true with the 2015 Jets but slightly moreso.

I hope I am wrong, but I can guarantee you Geno Smith will ruin ANY designs the Jets players have on making the playoffs in 2015 if he's the starter.

MJ I think we'll be in competition for a wildcard spot despite our QBs sucking. This team is too good elsewhere to not be in it until the final weeks of the season. We do play in a difficult division but the rest of the schedule is weak. My only concern is that we are weak on the oline.

I think that is what we address next year and we could be on our way. Mac has done a great job on paper, let's hope it pans out

And that's exactly where the problems will start for this team. The OL IMO is suspect. Ivory will do his thing and provide us some ground offense, but eventually the blocking will not hold up for the running game and Geno or Fitz will ultimately have to win games for us. That is when bad thing will happen. Geno has the uncanny ability to take the dumbest sacks in the history of the game and take the Jets OUT of scoring position. It happened at least 3 times that I can think of last season? He'll also throw a bucket load of interceptions because he cannot go through progressions. If his 1st guy is not open, he folds up like a cheap suit. He's never managed to put any of the dumb rookie mistakes behind him. He was making those same dumb decisions throughout last season.

Fitz is a whole lot better of a QB than Geno he is also careless with the football.

If this team had an OL like they had in say 2009 and the RB's to go with it? Then I would absolutely agree that the Jets have a shot this season. But they do not have anywhere near that talent now.

Im rooting for any QB to step up..but anyone saying Petty is competition for Geno and Fitz..at this time is misguided....First off..any rookie QB should sit a year..thats why MAriota starting right away is a BIG mistake..although with Metzenberger there he wont handle..holding the torch for a year....
