Petty should get a lot of reps and a lot of time in the preseason. Great for his development and should lead to a terrific competition next offseason between Ryan and Bryce for the starting QB position.

Let's Go Jets

Fair point. I'm excited to see what Petty can do tonight and the rest of the preseason. Should be exciting.

He's 32, not a 40. How old are Brady & Manning? 38 & 39. That gives us 6 years for 4 SB's!!
Lol you gotta be joking right, four SBs in six year with Fitz. We'll be lucky to make the playoffs with him this year. Let me clarify my originally statement about his age. When I called him a old ass I wasn't referring to his age per say. I was talking about his under average arm strength, basic and non-excitement in his game (not that important I will admit) and the fact he isn't our future. That to me adds up to him being an old ass NFL QB. Plus he is in his 30's and we have to factor that in.

I agree

There has never been a successful NFL QB over 29 years old as everyone knows. That 30th birthday is always the end of the road

And Bryce Petty, the QB that admin suggested we discuss in this thread, NOT Ryan Fitzpatrick or that other guy IS clearly only in his early 20s

He's been awful in camp and team knows he needs plenty of time to develop, if ever

Spoke to a Jets source today who was emphatic that Petty isn't ready. https://twitter.com/koconnor63/status/631264518996258816

Problem with this is Caporoso hasn't been to camp. He's been retweeting what others have said. he doesn't know anything more then the people who have been following the tweet thread knows.

My take from all the tweets I've posted is he has been erratic. One tweet they are talking about what a beautiful throw he made, and the next what a horrible read he made on the interception. I'm anticipating the same tonight.

I agree with Caporoso on one thing, Petty isn't close to being ready. he needs time. I hope the fans give it to him if he has a very inconsistent night. Kid has big talent.

Sounds like Caporoso has an agenda.

I'd be curious to know if Caporoso was a Petty detractor prior to the draft and/or after we picked him?

Because he sounds like someone who is more interested in validating his initial opinion than letting the process play out.

I don't mind if he has an opinion, we all have opinions about players in the draft, I'm just curious to know if this is more about validating his opinion and hearing what he wants to hear, than being fair and reporting the good stuff too?

Caporoso definitely has an agenda... Reports from everywhere else have been decent on Petty.. Saying he looke better than expected but still needs to learn....

Awful is beyond a stretch...It's garbage reporting.

Not pretty but about what I expected, no turnovers by Petty and he looked like a deer in the headlights at times. Lions are world champs of preseason game one..... so what.

The only positive I'll take from his performance is that he didn't look flustered. He was lost when his first option wasn't there but he looked like he belonged.

Yep, nothing to brag about, but I've seen worse NFL debuts ... a lot worse.

Agreed. His body language was a +, his play was blah...but as you'd expect of a spread QB. As referenced 100 times, hopefully the dumb Russell Wilson comparisons are done. Wilson was named week 1 starter after the first preseason game when he...started week 1 preseason game and lit is up. He's no Wilson, he looked like what he is, a developmental prospect. Wilson was never a developmental project, he was a week 1 starting QB his rookie year that lead his team to the play-offs despite having ZERO WRs. I still think the Jets add another young QB in next year's draft to compete with Petty. I still think our situation is very similar to the Titans taking Zack Mettenberger last year...a nice late rd developmental prospect that doesnt prevent you from taking another QB next year if a better prospect falls in your lap.

Not sure what GM said it but he said his golden rule was to draft a QB every year.... Of course where you draft that QB it is based on need. Do we need a high pick cause we have no one or a mid rd pick cause we want to develop one or do we take a late rd pick cause we can take on a project QB....

At this point we need to find the guy I think in a year or two Petty will be the guy... so I say we continue taking 3rd and 4th rd picks and go from there.. Unless we have a top 5 pick again and some can't miss guys is there in the next draft... Then we take that guy LOL!!

Well, I think you take a QB based in your scouting report. If you grade a guy out as a franchise QB, you go get them. If you score someone the next Matt Ryan, Phillip Rivers, or Big Ben...you go get them. Not at any cost, but as a cost the jets feel is appropriate.

It's okay to like Petty and not know what he is. That is 100% where the jets are. If you think the jets feel he is a franchise QB, I don't agree. I think they feel he has the potential to be, but have no idea if he will become one. If they were 100 sold on him, he wouldn't have been drafted where he was drafted. The kid needs to learn a ton, could take 2-3 seasons for him to develop and Mac and Bowles don't have that long to wait. Remember, he was drafted in the same area as Cousins, Hoyer, and Glennon...that's lijely the level of talent we are trying to mold...I don't think drafting a guy in that area prevent you from grabbing a QB rd 1 if a TD 1 talent gets you excited. Next year's rd 1 talent is like the year Eli, Rivers, and Big Ben came out...why would you pass on that for a guy looking at a playbook for the first time since high school? He's never even called plays before...but you pass on a pro style QB for a guy who is learning to take snaps under center? I don't think so. That's how you get a GM fired...
