Geez, am I the only one who likes Powell? Good but not great at everything. Consistent runner, good receiver, and excellent in pass protection.

Understand what your saying about Spiller, I would rather have signed Spiller then Stacy. Wonder if Gailey had some input there?

I like Powell... But he cannot run the plays that Freeman runs it Atlanta. and yes Spiller over Stacy or even Ridley would have been better

Redskins' injury list a long one

Injury report for Redskins vs. Jets

Redskins

Out

CB Chris Culliver (knee)—He played a full game with an ailing knee against the Eagles and it seems that he paid for that by not being able to suit up the next Sunday against Atlanta. He is the Redskins’ highest-paid and best cornerback but he needs to be able to rehab his knee, which has no structural damage per Jay Gruden, to the point where he can be effective. Will Blackmon will make a second straight start in his place.

CB DeAngelo Hall (toe)—He did some on-field rehab last week but he was not seen on the field this week. This will be the third game missed since the grade-two sprain he suffered against the Giants. The original assessment passed along by Gruden was “three to four weeks, maybe longer. The best guess now is that he won’t be back until after the Week 8 bye. Bashaud Breeland will continue to start in his place with Kyshoen Jarrett taking Breeland’s slot corner snaps.

TE Jordan Reed (concussion)—We saw Reed on the practice field this week and although he was only an observer it was a step in the right direction. Gruden said that he was able to attend meetings, another positive sign. But it still could be some time before he is able to return to the field. In his absence, Derek Carrier, acquired in a trade on August 21, will start and Antony McCoy, signed as a free agent a week before the season started, will back him up. We could see a heavier does of fullback Darryl Young and/or tackle Tom Compton to help with blocking.

LT Trent Williams (concussion): He suffered a neck sprain during the Falcons game and he passed the concussion baseline test after the game. The neck injury appeared to be improving when he started to feel concussion symptoms and was placed in the NFL concussion protocol. It appears that Ty Nsekhe will start in his place, although there could be other options.

C Kory Lichtensteiger (shoulder and broken finger): He got through the Falcons game but he was worse for wear after doing so. Like Williams, he was limited in practice on Wednesday and out on Thursday and Friday. Josh LeRibeus will start at center.

Questionable (50% chance player will play)

RB Matt Jones (toe): He injured his toe on his last carry in the fourth quarter against the Falcons. Jones was seen participating in individual drills this week with no apparent issues. But then he did not practice on Friday and Gruden said that he had not progressed as they had hoped.

WR DeSean Jackson (hamstring)—Early in the week Jackson seemed to be a sure bet to play when he looked pretty good in the early part of practice. But on Thursday he stopped practicing early when he “felt a little twinge”, according to Gruden. He likely will be a game-time decision.

WR Andre Roberts (quad): Roberts was injured during practice on Wednesday; he will be a game time decision.

DE Stephen Paea (back): He practiced on a limited basis all week.

Probable (virtual certainty that player will play)

ILB Perry Riley (calf) returned against the Falcons after missing two games with a calf strain.

CB Bashaud Breeland (shoulder): he suffered a bruised rotator cuff in Atlanta and Gruden said that he was “pretty sore” on Monday. Breeland was limited in practice but as long as it’s a matter of pain management it seems likely that he will play.

I agree.

I was concerned about this game earlier, but looking at the injury list, there is just no excuse to lose this game.

Unless they are looking at the injury list also, and looking down the road at the pats. Bowles can't let that happen.

I view the bye week as a double edged sword.

On the one hand its hard to dial it back to zero and go into full chill mode in the middle of an NFL season, then dial it back to max intensity and effort following your little vacation, but there's really no way around it because this league is brutal on the body and the bye week is the only chance they will get all year to give their bodies a much needed rest.

So that part scares me.

On the other hand we needed to get some injured guys healthy, guys who may not have played last week but are more likely to play this week, and most of all we are getting Sheldon Richardson back, a TOP 5 DT (3-4 DE) in the sport in my view. Also we're home and frankly the Redskins are a team we should beat, and I can't imagine this team could have another letdown at home with the Philly debacle still fresh in their minds.

So lets just say I'm cautiously optimistic :)

Jets coach Todd Bowles issues warning about not taking banged-up Washington lightly

Todd Bowles says his Jets 'have to go out and play our game' vs. Washington on Sunday.
The Jets will welcome a decimated Washington team to MetLife Stadium on Sunday, one without it’s two starting cornerbacks, two first-team offensive linemen and its top tight end, not to mention question marks elsewhere offensively.

So it should be a walk in the park for the Jets on Sunday, right? Like a stroll along the Great Lawn? Not if you ask Todd Bowles.

“I think when you try to take people lightly they’re gonna kick your butt,” the first-year Jets head coach said Friday. “We just have to go out and play our game.”

There should be big advantages for the Jets on both sides of the ball. Washington corners Chris Culliver (knee) and DeAngelo Hall (toe) will both be out. Tackle Trent Williams (neck, concussion,) center Kory Lichtensteiger (shoulder, finger and neck) and tight end Jordan Reed (concussion) will also miss the game.

MEHTA: JETS BELIEVE IN FITZPATRICK'S MAGIC

Washington might also be without rookie running back Matt Jones, who is questionable with a toe injury. He was limited in practice for two days before sitting out completely on Friday. The team may get DeSean Jackson back from a hamstring injury, but he too is questionable. Its remaining top corner, Bashaud Breeland, is probable but reportedly has a bruised rotator cuff.

Already a favorite on paper, that would all appear to make the Jets a lock to win, but their Week 3 home loss to Philadelphia — which at the time seemed as much like Panic City as Citi Field ever was — is proving to be a cautionary tale.

Safety Calvin Pryor told the Daily News the Jets are “not good enough” to take any team in the NFL lightly and cited that Eagles game as a reason why the Jets need to start fast on Sunday and try to maintain dominance.

The biggest matchup advantage either team has in this game is the Jets D-line verses the Skins O-line, especially with Sheldon coming back, and that matchup should be pivotal.

The Skins are down two starters on the O-line, their 3X Pro Bowl LT, Trent Williams, and their starting Center, Kory Lichtensteiger, and you all know what we can roll out there on the D-line.

I never like to rely on the other teams injuries to win a ball-game, nine times out of ten its fools gold, the backups usually come in and rise to the occasion and the coaching staff normally gets them some help, but the last thing in the world you want verses the Jets is a banged-up offensive line, not with he kind of D-line the Jets can run out there, and the amount of depth the Jets have to rotate them and keep them fresh.

IMO this should be a huge, game deciding advantage for the Jets provided the D-line comes frothing at the mouth.

Except keeping them motivated for a cupcake game against a hapless Eagles team. Also, his challenges suck. He hasn't even been close on one so far.

Bowles is doing a very nice job thus far I agree. But you can still see where this team just decides not to show up on certain days. Just like Rex had it happen to him, you see it happen already with Bowles.
