Todd Bowles says his Jets 'have to go out and play our game' vs. Washington on Sunday.
The Jets will welcome a decimated Washington team to MetLife Stadium on Sunday, one without it’s two starting cornerbacks, two first-team offensive linemen and its top tight end, not to mention question marks elsewhere offensively.
So it should be a walk in the park for the Jets on Sunday, right? Like a stroll along the Great Lawn? Not if you ask Todd Bowles.
“I think when you try to take people lightly they’re gonna kick your butt,” the first-year Jets head coach said Friday. “We just have to go out and play our game.”
There should be big advantages for the Jets on both sides of the ball. Washington corners Chris Culliver (knee) and DeAngelo Hall (toe) will both be out. Tackle Trent Williams (neck, concussion,) center Kory Lichtensteiger (shoulder, finger and neck) and tight end Jordan Reed (concussion) will also miss the game.

Washington might also be without rookie running back Matt Jones, who is questionable with a toe injury. He was limited in practice for two days before sitting out completely on Friday. The team may get DeSean Jackson back from a hamstring injury, but he too is questionable. Its remaining top corner, Bashaud Breeland, is probable but reportedly has a bruised rotator cuff.
Already a favorite on paper, that would all appear to make the Jets a lock to win, but their Week 3 home loss to Philadelphia — which at the time seemed as much like Panic City as Citi Field ever was — is proving to be a cautionary tale.
Safety Calvin Pryor told the Daily News the Jets are “not good enough” to take any team in the NFL lightly and cited that Eagles game as a reason why the Jets need to start fast on Sunday and try to maintain dominance.
