Corey Hilliard making a visit to Jets

The Jets ticked off some of the biggest boxes on their offseason to-do list by signing three cornerbacks and a safety after trading for wide receiver Brandon Marshall.

That’s left them free to move down the list to some of their smaller needs. Depth on the offensive line is one of those things, as evidenced by Wednesday’s visit from James Brewer and Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press‘s report that tackle Corey Hilliard will also meet with the team.

Hilliard has spent the last six years with the Lions, although injuries have kept him from making much of an impression on the field. Hilliard played the season opener last season before a foot injury ended his season and a knee injury in 2013 kept him from holding onto the right tackle job in Detroit.

If Hilliard does land with the Jets, he’ll likely be a swing tackle behind D’Brickashaw Ferguson and Breno Giacomini in 2015.

Does this mean we are giving up on our current "swing tackle" now in Ben Ijalana 6'4"/322 who is only 25 and was a #2 draft pick of the Colts out of Villanova 4 years ago ?

Jets cut Harvin at $10 mill and he signs with Buff for $8 mill...

Percy Harvin - WR - Bills
Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports Percy Harvin's new contract is actually a three-year, $24 million deal.
Harvin's contract voids after the first year, so the one-year, $6 million agreement is still in tact. Signing Harvin for three years instead of one makes financial sense because the Bills are able to spread out his $3 million signing bonus over the next three seasons, saving them $2 million in cap room for 2015. Voiding Harvin's contract after the first season would cost the Bills $2 million in dead money.

Per source, Dolphins will not be matching the offer for TE Charles Clay. He'll become a member of the Bills.

Probably a good sign, if you'd like them to add him RT @KMart_LI: FA Denarius Moore is still at the #Jets facility, source says.

Michael Crabtree - WR - Free Agent
49ers coaches reportedly felt free agent Michael Crabtree was "really slowed down" by lower-leg injuries in 2014.
NFL Network's Albert Breer also says there's a negative "perception" about Crabtree's attitude. The concern about Crabtree's lower-leg injuries was borne out in his usage by the 49ers staff, which deployed Crabtree as a possession receiver. Lower-leg injuries also brought Hakeem Nicks and Michael Clayton's careers to a halt. It's not a surprise Crabtree has drawn scant interest in free agency. Even at age 27, he doesn't separate or run after the catch like he used to.

How Spiller can leave after three years

Although the contract that C.J. Spiller signed with the New Orleans Saints is for four years and $16 million, he could cash out after three seasons, if he performs at an elite level.

"Spiller could play his way out of town and have the final year of his contract voided if he makes the Pro Bowl twice during the first three years of his deal or is a first-team All-Pro in 2017, according to a source," wrote Nick Underhill of the Advocate.

Whether Spiller can return to the form we saw from him a few years ago remains to be seen, though:

Insider

Matt Claassen
Spiller not an impact signing

"The Saints appear to be overhauling their offense this offseason, and Spiller is an intriguing pickup because of his outstanding 2012 performance. He ranked second that season among running backs in PFF overall grading, average yards per rush and average yards after contact, while leading the league by forcing a missed tackle on one out of every 3.9 rush attempts. His 94.6 elusive rating remains the highest regular-season rating in eight years of PFF data. However, he has since been on the decline, not showing the same elusiveness, and injuries have been troublesome. He ranked 51st out of 55 running backs in PFF overall grading in 2013 and was injured most of last season. When he was on the field, he earned a negative-5.9 overall grade. If the Saints are still looking to fill the Darren Sproles role in the offense, Spiller has shown the talent to do so if he can regain his 2012 form and stay healthy. But he is more than two years removed from his only season of great play, and Khiry Robinson has already proven to perform well during his limited snaps in the New Orleans offense."

We'll see who sticks. I don't see anyone that projects as a backup LT. Might not be finished.

Winters is going to have to earn his spot on this roster.

We added some help on the D-line, signed Harris at MLB, spent a ton of $$$ on our Secondary, added a QB, WR and a few (not household names) bodies on the OL. NO OLBers! Are we showing our cards come draft time?
