I just don’t get the notion of fans being petrified of giving Bryce Petty the back up role if he honestly deserves it come week one of this season.
Because he’s “inexperienced”? If we look back in the history of the NFL, many organizations took that leap of faith and came out looking like geniuses.
Brett Favre- 1992, the Green Bay Packers went into that campaign with only two QB’s. Favre Backed up Don Majikowski, a Green Bay idol at the time. Sure Mike Holmgren could have tried to convice then GM Ron Wolf that Favre was too raw in year two, recently traded from Atlanta. Why risk the whole season god forbid the “Majik” man goes down?
Well, history showed that they had the COJONES to stick to their guns and the face of the franchise changed dramatically for the nect 12 years.
Kurt Warner- 1999. The St.Louis Rams had just invested some serious cash in Trent Green. No way they would place their fortunes into the hands of an arena football qb to back him up god forbid Green went down, right?
Yet again, the organization made the right choice and the rest was written in the annals of time.
Tom Brady-2001. Lets be real, we all know the story. But why would Bill Belichick ever place this kid behind Drew Bledsoe? Hell, he had Damon Huard who had game time experience. Sort of like what we have in Geno Smith, right? We all know what Smith is all about, kind of like what Bill Belichick knew what Huard already had to offer.
If Bryce Petty shows any sort of improvement from year one, he should be our #2. No more of this Geno Smith, Tony Banks 2.0 misery. It's as if we're giving up on the season if Petty is our number two. It's proposterous.
If you cut Petty today, he wont last long and teams will pick him up rather quickly. If you cut Geno this very minute, teams will actually wait until after the pre-season is over with. Geno is what he is, no matter what the talent is around him.
1st preseason game last night , Bryce seems like he made very good progress in this system. He played very good. No way they cut this kid over Happy feet Geno.
