Give me Cooper or pass rusher. Neither QB please.
If Mariota goes 2nd to someone, that opens up a ton of interesting scenarios for the Jets
Maybe
Jaguars - Williams DT
Oakland - Cooper WR (or White)
Redskins - Fowler DE
Jets - Gregory, Ray, Beasley, White (or Cooper)
Jmo As we get closer to the draft, the more I get the feeling the Raiders aren't going Wr with there first pick.( even though a number 1 Wr type will be sitting there). I think there is a very strong possibility they go with Leonard Williams( gets pass the Titans) , or one of the pass rushers.
The reason being as the Patriots and other teams have shown you don't need a number 1 type Wr to win. The pass rusher is a much more important piece to the puzzle , than the Wr . The raiders defense is able to add that pass rusher, and there defense is going to keep them in a lot of games. ( better chance to win more games in 2015-,have to win eight games.( anything less is a failure)
This is a very deep Wr class( probably won't get that number 1 type Wr) but they definitely can improve the position. If they address the defense with their first pick( did a lot in Fa to improve the defense), than you can expect them to concentrate on fixing the offense with the rest of their draft picks.
Interesting take. I think the Raiders want help for Carr. He looks like a good QB to me, as long as they get him a #1 caliber receiver. Your point about the Patriots is true, but we're talking about Brady here. And he also has a dominant TE in Gronk. If I'm Oakland, I'm all over Cooper or White.
Agreed. I also think the Raiders will go WR to give carr some help...but Williams is a stud, man, and so is OLB Mack. You give MacK Williams crushing the pocket inside, and you help Mack as much as a #1 WR helps Carr. if he falls to Oakland, which isnt likely, I wont be "shocked" if they go Williams over WR. I do think his value is greater than Cooper and Whites...

Me too, Sarge. If the Raiders want to take Gregory, that's fine with me! I like Gregory, but I'd rather have White or Cooper

Again with Jack Delrio background being defense, you can't discount Raiders not taken a pass rusher at 4. ( wouldn't surprise if they went that way, and drafted the best Wr left in the second round) like I alluded to, it's much easier to find a Wr , than a pass rusher.
Personally I would draft Amari Cooper and go for the best pass rusher left in second round. Amari Cooper is ready to contribute from Day one . Raiders have Wr similar to Kevin White. http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=113644&draftyear=2015&genpos=WR Versus http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=82134&draftyear=2013&genpos=WR ( talking just size and speed) )
People say the draft is loaded with pass rushers, but truth is, they'll all be gone by the end of rd 1.
I bet you're right. if williams is there, the Raiders take him. Truth be told, I dont expect Cooper to be the best WR in this class, just the first one taken. There will be #1 WRs available with your 2nd rd pick: Beckham may be there, Perriman, Strong, Devin Smith, and Sammy Coates could all be rd 2 targets that may or may not develop into #1 WRs.
if Williams is the #1 rated prospect on the board, if Im oakland, I take Williams #1 to put beside Mack and Perriman rd 2 for Carr. Perriman is going to be very good and having his dad Brent work with him long term to be successful is a huge + for that kid.
I think you can find stud WR rd 2, i dont think you'll find the stud pass rusher in later rounds. Stick to your guns.
I think you can get a pass rusher in the second . UCLA De Owamagbe Odighizuwa would be my choice in the second, if they took Amari Cooper in first. ( Preston Smith, Eli Harold) Again I don't get to make the pick , and I'm getting the feeling The Raiders are going for the pass rusher with their first pick.( Mckenize with the packers never drafted a Wr in the first)
I think the Raiders want to play a Seattle type of defense , and will draft the pass rusher that best fits what they are looking for.( only Delrio and Ken Norton Jr. know who that guy is). Only one Raiders had a long interview with was Gregory ( don't know if smokescreen or the combine changed their thinking.( like another pass rusher better now)
Btw Jmo if Raiders did go pass rusher in first I could see them going Jaelen Strong or Nelson Agholor- slot receiver in the second. none of them would be number 1 type of Wr, and it would be okay.

Pass rusher? Okay, but didn't they just use a high 1st on one last year? Or did they amazingly take him off the front four and have him play LB? If so, let's see if Del Rio fixes that. I see you're starting Antonio Smith (33) and Dan Williams in the middle of that DLine. I see them going DT with Williams if available.
Didn't they go pass rusher before? So what? We drafted Wilk, Coples, and Richardson...we're still swinging for a pass rush...bet we go front 7 early again...

So don't they have other needs?
I'm aware that we need a pass rusher. I wasn't born yesterday. This has never been addressed in the Ryan era.
Well, I don't consider a pass rushing OLB/DE and a DT in back to back Years a bad thing...and Suh and Fairly are both DTs, that's different then say drafting Raji and then Clay Matthews...it's apples and oranges, IMO
